FYI: HID Systems/Info

Have been doing some of my own research (my 2 cents worth). Firstly, lo beams are 9006 or HB4. Hi beams are 9005 or HB3. Fog/Driving lights(in the front spoiler) are H3. The HID conversion kits I have research suggest replacement of bulbs plus addition of ballast (to get the required 20,000 volts required to ignite the Xenon bulb) plus some cables to hook the ballast into the existing cable system. You retain the existing lens. The HIDs offer between 2 to 3 times the illumination of the standard halogen bulbs and also come in differing colours (dependant on the gas mixture) the Light colour is indicated by the K indicator e.g. 4500K, 6000K, 8000K, 10,000K, etc. The larger the number the differnt colours achieved - lo K equals more yellow light (around 3000-4000), around 4500 equals a white light, above 6000 starts to go blueish, around 10,000 you get a violet light(more for show than anything else) Also the higher K values do tend to diminsh effective light output (approx. 10%) but when compared withy normal halogens, these bulbs are stiull much more effective. The recommended manufacturers are Polarg and Brayrig. It is also suggested to only upgrade (in the case where you have separate lo and hi beam bulbs) the low beams since hi beams are only on intermittantly (usually) and Xenon based gas bulbs do require a finite time to reach maximum brightness (unlike regular halogen bulbs). The combined lo/hi beam bulbs are ok but probably not suitable for Saab application.Further suggestion is to us something like the Silverstar Untra bulbs in your hi beams and the Xenon bulbs in your lo beams. The HID kits are not cheap and you get what you pay for. The quality suppliers/manufacturers appear to be from Japan and are Polarg and Raybrig.
