If we're talking about an Aero, 1996 is my favorite. 1996 was the first year that TCS was not available (yee-haw!!!!) for the Aero, it was the first year for the small leather pocket in the front of the front seats, it was the first year that the rear seat armrest had cupholders. I personally don't care for the "2.3T" emblem on the 1997; I think it clutters the back of a beautifully designed car, so the 1996 gets my nod.
CS or CSE? Dunno...never owned one.
