...versus boost.
Lots of folks run the high compression engine (10:1 CR) with stock "full boost" levels (10-12psi), safely controlled by the APC system along with a stock turbo fueling system & ECU.
I'm one of them, Hans and Pete Kelly are too, there are several others out there with this setup.
The high compression ratio just means the engine is going to detonate sooner than a lower compression engine. So while a 9:1CR turbo engine can run 20 psi boost (with proper fueling & timing), a 10:1CR engine will need a lot more than just fueling to get up to those boost levels (but it can be done, search for posts by "ssaaby" on the perf. board!)
Take care,
Jonathan
