Seems high to me since you don't have records...

Here's a not so equal comparison, but something to go by:

2.5 years ago I bought a '95 CS automatic for my daughter to use. It had 138K on it, had most service records and I knew the owner. I paid $2K and put another $1200 or so into it, including new Nokian WRs, but also F brakes, cat back exhaust, upper mounts, tranny mount, plugs, all filters, hatch strut, CV boots, and a few other things. It now needs a heater core and a few other things. But it's a solid car. An Aero in the same shape would have been worth about $4K.

An Aero is wonderful, but without records you have to be cautious, unless you have a way of telling that some potentially expensive things have been done.

At that mileage it is LIKELY that the heater core was done, maybe the blower, too. The DI is a crap shoot. So is the fuel pump. How often was the oil changed? The coolant? Is the head gasket original? What about the clutch? And as someone else noted 171K is a bit high for a '96. My '96 CSE has 135K. That car I bought without records at 90K, but I talked at length to the PO and the techs at place where it had been serviced, so I had a handle on it. And the car was all but pristine.

A lot of people will ask extra for an Aero, but it's really only worth more to Saab enthusiasts, and then only if it's a good car. Remember: you can put an Aero suspension on a CS or CSE for $600. You can remap the ECU for about the same and get about the same HP and torque. You can find Aero seats if you gotta have them.

Just my $0.02.
