We need advice or help regarding what to do about our '95 9000 CSE V6.
We bought it in August 2004 from the 2nd owner. It had 85,000 miles and was in nice condition. All maintenance records (including those from first owner)were provided.
We replaced tires and had regular oil changes. Had 95K service (including timing belt tensioner replacement under Saab warranty) done at dealer. Had to make some operational repairs, due to a couple of "incidents", but didn't fix any dents or dings.
Then the bigger problems started:
8/06 - First gas gauge stopped working, then car wouldn't start. Fuel pump assembly replaced by a Saab mechanic recommended on Saabnet.
11/06 - Smelled radiator fluid. Upper radiator hose had to be replaced.
8 days later, son was driving and car just stopped. Wouldn't go into gear. Had to have trans replaced with a "used trans assy w/conv". Son was 180 miles away at college in Iowa with no Saab dealers or repair shops. Used a local trans repair shop who gave a 6 month warranty on the work.
6/07 - A/C stopped blowing cold air. Son's friend checks it out and says some hose is cracked and needs to be replaced. Didn't even get to take it in to the repair shop when the trans died AGAIN.
Same as before - son was driving and car just stopped. It will not go forward at all and barely goes in reverse. Son and car are home from college for summer, so original trans repair shop is 180 miles away. Doesn't matter because the Warranty expired 16 days ago.
What do you guys/girls recommend doing? Should we:
* Have it towed and get an estimate for repairs to see if it's worth having the trans fixed? We're not willing to pay for another replacement, but maybe it's something else? Even if the original trans repair place was willing to fix under the warranty, they're not an option because they're too far away. We have more choices of Saab repair shops and dealers here in Chicago.
* Sell it "as is"? Maybe someone can do the work themselves or could use it for parts?
* Sell parts from it? The family is not very mechanically inclined, so we could only sell things we can easily remove or we'd have to let buyers remove parts themselves.
* Sell it to a junkyard? Give it to them?
Any advice or recommendations are appreciated.
