Even though the warranty expired two weeks ago, any reputable business should cover it. If they refuse, you know what kind of place you're dealing with. If they cover it, then you get a free transmission. It's worth calling to find out.
It will be a lot cheaper to pay for the tow there (or buy an AAA membership which everyone with a car that old should have anyway) if they'll replace the transmission under warranty.
Then, you can either drive the car for a while longer, or sell it and get a lot more money than you would for an undriveable car.
