1996 Aero
My wifes car has NO warm air, whatsoever. Below is the series of events, and what appears to be happening.
Last year, all kinds of heat, A/C, ACC system working properly. Since then, it started occasionally turning cold while blowing hot air; it would blow hot for a week, then cool for 5 seconds, then back to hot again. This ratio has gradually turned the tables to blowing hot air for 5 seconds, then cold air for the rest of the week. When it started only blowing warm air occasionally, I could sometimes get it to blow hot air longer by going from HI to 82*, or turning on the recirc. function. Now, all I get is ice cold air with NO hint of warmth period.
ACC Controller - Working fine; recalibration comes up with "0", and I've tried 2 other known working good units.
Thermostat / Coolant - Definitely hot! Temp gauge is dead on where its always been; just a sniff shy of the 9:00 position, whether its 100* outside in traffic or 30* on my ride to work; needle is rock solid. Upper and lower radiator hoses are both hot.
Heater Core - There are 2 hoses to the heater core. The hose on the drivers side is hot; as hot as the radiator hose. The hose toward the passengers side is cooler, but is still warm. Definitely not as hot as the other hose. Could this point to a clogged heater core?
Cooling fan - For some reason, the cooling fan seems to be running a lot more than it normally does. It seems that everytime I shut the car off now, the fan is running, even this morning on a 35*, 50mph drive to work. Say the heater core IS plugged. Would that cause restricted coolant flow in system as a whole; would that make the car heat up quicker, and make the cooling fan run more?
Servo motors - Do they go bad? Do the flaps that direct air everywhere get stripped out, or does that cable get disconnected somehow? I have another motor setup, but don't want to tackle the problem if I don't have to.
Starting to get a little anxious on this end. Its getting cold! Thanks.
