i drove my '92 5-spd in this condition for at least a couple years, many thousands of miles, 10-15K, until something broke and it locked up in first gear. didn't want to go the rebuild route, so the cheapest fix at the time was replacing it with a used tranny for $400 or so plus my labor, which i declined to do, and instead stripped the car for parts and sold what i couldn't use on my '93. tough choice, car would probably still be running now had i replaced the tranny. the tranny might have lasted a little longer, also, if i hadn't been driving it hard, but for some reason the engine really seemed to come to life after 160K and I started to really enjoy driving it.
