I can speak on this subject from experience. I have a 97 9000 aero 5spd, 01 9-3 Viggen, and an 03 9-5 Aero (wife's....well now ex-wife). I love my 9000 aero, but she has 195 K on her and she is pretty tired. I had a 91 9000 turbo 5spd before the aero. So I have been driving 9000's for 14 years and put on 250K on both- total. I drove the 9-5 aero last week about 160 miles on Mass Pike. Maybe because it's tighter/ newer- it felt really good. But I really hate automatics. It would kick ass if it were a manual. So if the 9000 Aero was 100% mechanically it beats the 9-5 Aero hands down. Now the Viggen on the other hand is easily my favorite of the 3. Sure it has ridiculous torque steer. But it always makes me smile when I drive it. Three door, 2001, Steel Gray- sharp ass car.

But on the other hand, it it is very small compared to a 9000. When my 23 yr old son is with me- we are shoulder to shoulder. So the 9000 easily wins if space is a priority. The Viggen is my weekend car-fine for 2 people. If you have to haul a family, or whatever, you can't beat a 9000.

Since you are looking at a 3 series- I imagine space is not your top priority.

In your case- comparing a 325XI to a 9-5 is not a valid comparison. Two entirely different class of cars. Compare it to a 9-3 SS aero. And I bet will feel a lot closer in comparison
