A few years ago, someone on the 900 board commented..."It's too bad Saab didn't make a NEW version of the 900, updated suspendion, a little bigger, more modern, etc..."
I commented that Saab did, it was the 9000, and the purists were horrified, saying the 9000 was slower, numb ride and steering, not even close to a Saab.
Well, haveing owned 3 900's, 6 9000's, one being an Aero, and now having added a 9-5 wagon, all I can say is each car is a logical, more modern progression in engineering and design.
Just as the 9000 didn't FEEL as fast as the 900, but was actually faster, just a lot smoother and quieter, the 9-5 doesn't FEEL as quick as the 9000, but will handle and corner as well or better, if we're comparing the same level of car.
No, a Linear or Arc sportwagon can't be compared to a 9000 Aero sedan, just as a CS LPT can't be compared to a 9-5 Aero.
The 9-5 is quieter, much more solid, frame and body wise, and generally much more reliable a vehicle, if one is comparing the vehicles of the same production time, i.e. the early 9000's vs early 9-5, or post 95 9000 vs post 03 9-5. In fact, the 9-5 is rated as a very reliable vehicle compared to all makes and models, something the 9000 never was.
To compare either to a rear wheel drive small BMW does't seem a fair comparison, nor would comparing repair costs.
To each their own, but sorry, I guess I've heard it all before.
