Boost not quite making it to red? Posted by dbreid [Email] (#1192) [Profile/Gallery] (more from dbreid) on Thu, 5 Jun 2008 20:30:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
All,
A couple weeks ago, my 1993 9000 Aero started acting a little odd. It was hesitating under boost, and sort of "skipping" or bucking a little. Not violent, like bad gas or anything, but just a little. On the recommendations I found here, I did all of this:
1.) New NGK plugs, gapped properly, with plenty of dielectric grease and anitsieze.
2.) Cleaned out BPC (on radiator driver side) with electrical cleaner.
3.) Checked Vaccum connections and hoses
4.) Purchased brand new red DI cassette from Saab and installed.
Now the car runs MUCH better. It is smooth and has pretty good power. But it still won't quite boost to the red. Any suggestions? Is it possible the wastegate rod is adjusted wrong? The previous owner mentioned he had "detuned" (when pressed he didn't know what had been done by his mechanic...) the turbo for his wife to feel more comfortable with the car.
I haven't touched the wastegate rod since buying the car, and overall, the car is driving fine, I just feel like the turbo isn't being allowed to spool the whole way.
Is there a procedure for adjusting the wastegate rod properly? I searched (David Ingram has many posts saying to search, but I was unable to find the procedure and the Hynes says little of use)...
Also, could it be a bad (or weak) BPC? I tested the resistance across the connections and they were within specs.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
