1. Very low resale - only a problem if you're thinking of selling it and you're not replacing it with same brand. Certainly, low resale value is not a reason to think of getting rid of a car ("This car's got such low resale that I'm going to sell it!).
2. Few people know how to work on them - True, but I know how, and there's a foreign car service place in town that does a nice job. Not a difficult situation. Surely you can find one person who can do the things you don't want to, and you can do the rest yourself. If you don't want to work on your car, then you should always buy newer and trade it in frequently. An older car is not good for someone who doesn't do their own work - too expensive. But if you do your own work, it's pretty economical.
3. Gas mileage - How much better do you want to get? Most Saab models get 30 mpg highway. Sure, I'd like to see 40+ highway, but I'd have to shell out a fair amount of money, replacing my paid-for car with something that is less safe and less practical. Plus, with slump in the economy, I'm not going to go into debt for a new(er) car.
Summary - there is no better time for me to keep my Saab.
