I recently did this on my wifes '96 Aero, and developed one slick trick to help with the disaster of resassembly. Bear with me Austin, since you haven't seen the actual parts I'll describe.

To get the heater core out, you need to remove the blower motor assy. Getting it out isn't bad, but make sure you remove the hot / cold flap cable before you remove the assembly. You can't miss it, just remember. Cable. On the bottom of the blower motor assy, one on each side, there are two plastic "ridges" molded into the housing. On the heater box mounted inside the car, there are two plastic "ears" with slots. The ridges snap into the ears to secure the whole assembly back in place.

BUT....its freakin' impossible to get it to all slide back together with a pair of heater core hoses and hose clamps blocking the way. You'll see what I mean.

THE TIP:
Look on the "firewall" where both heater core hoses pass through, and you'll see a large grommet, which also holds the vacuum line going to the boost gauge. Unhook both heater core hoses from the motor, unhook the vacuum line from the T fitting, and push the large grommet into the aquarium area, hoses and all. Once the whole contraption is in the aquarium, pull it up toward the ECU, out of the way, and it makes it 100% clear to swing the blower motor assembly down into place, you can actually see and touch the ears to make sure they are locked in. Once the assy. is in place, reroute the hoses back through into the engine bay, reseat the grommet and continue with reassembly.

Good luck. Wear Mechanix gloves or something. Blood will flow if not, guaranteed.
