Which heater core was used? Some posters here have said that the very cheap heater cores, i.e. Marelli or Scantech, can have early failures - this is why I popped for the extra $30 - $40 for the Nissens version (but couldn't quite face paying close to $300 for the SAAB version). Are you sure that the hose connection is leaking or is it possibly a cracked plastic end tank or a separation of it from the metal core? Is it possible to remove the hose and take a look (wait, didn't you already remove it?)? This is bad news indeed. If you are forced to redo the heater core and the blower motor was not done recently, make plans to do that too - you're already in there.
Yes, these do not have the same durability as the heater cores on C900s. The heater core in my recently retired 1983 900 was the original one (third blower motor though).
