The logic is impecable, but once I've put everything together, tighten the tensioner all is still fine (ie the cam marks are perpendicular, the mark on the crank pulley is fine) but when I turn the crank pulley the tensioner gives a couple more snicks and I rotate the crank around until the cam marks are perpendicular again and the crank is still 1/2 inch off the mark.

I'm running out of time (see what I did there?) and I really need to get the car back on the road, can anyone suggest anything?

I am right in turning the crank clockwise huh?
