the shop (local BMW dealership) that I let the insurance company tow the car to for purposes of inspection (and convenient direct billing) broke the feed line valve removing the tank from the car, so i have to replace that, so my work is basically to remove the pump, remove the broken feed line from the pump, install it in the 'new' used tank, and re-assemble and put the tank back in the car.
i've tried working with that old hard plastic fuel line before, to replace my fuel damper, and i wound up using some new fuel line clamped onto the plastic line and the fuel damper. I think i'll do the same here, leave the broken plastic feed vale inside of the plastic fuel line, insert it into the new hose, clamp, and insert the new hose over the new feed line valve and clamp. i found at least one person in the archives who did that, and it worked well for my fuel damper.
the return valve looks ok, but i'll probably replace the o-ring on it.
thanks again for the the help, i guess i'll start with the screwdriver method (X) and if that proves difficult, try the pvc or wood tool creation, and see how it goes.
