Though I had read a post that said don't bother trying to fix the unit.
What is it with needing to redo solder joints on these cars? They shouldn't be that unreliable, they're not being worked in a way that would crystallize and crack them.
Years ago we used to have phototypesetting machines with keyboards and on the most frequently used letters, the repeated pounding by a fast typist over time would break the solder joints on the PC board. Letters would start doubling, then tripling, quadrupling, etc., at random. First we used to replace them with new ones (Honeywell I think made 'em) but later I discovered it just called for re-soldering the pins at the board.
So I can solder, and have two sizes of soldering iron and some extra-fine solder for this kind of work.
