Only if you catch the turbo at the right time, before it's had housing damage, can you "easily" rebuild one. This is rare. They are almost certainly gong to require housing reboring and fitment of oversize bearings by the time you notice any trouble. Not stuff for the home mechanic.
However, if you experienced an impact recently as you describe, chances are the wastegate rod has fallen off and simply needs to be reconnected.
Have a look at your turbo from underneath the car and I'll bet you will see this is the case. Very simple and cheap fix.
Do a search of the archives on "wastegate rod" for more details.
