high quality, easy, quick fix. Posted by vtsnaab [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Big exhaust leak from "Flex Pipe", JamesS-S, Fri, 5 Sep 2008 20:30:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have done this on several cars now with excellent results at a
very attractively low cost.
In my tiny rural town I am able to get an aftermarket flex pipe
at the local Bond Auto parts for around $30.
That and 2 clamps is all it takes.
All you have to do is measure the replacement against the one you
have for length between (including overlap for the joints), cut
out the bad factory flex, and clamp in the much beefier new one.
I've done the cutting with both air and electric grinders and one
time even with an air chisel, carefully.
The aftermarket unit fits tightly, has greater diameter, and IMO
they last longer than the skinny OEM ones.
And - as the other folks said - flex pipe is NOT optional, though
you can mount your rear pipes much more solidly than just rubber
doughnuts if you want to limit movement and get a little more in
the way of vibrational feedback in the cabin...
Best Wishes,
mark
