The switch is internally shorted so contacts are closed all the time. Pulling its wires out of the terminal block took the warning light off the pictogram or whatever, the dash diagram.
But it could be that someone will someday punch that button in the driver's door, and the hatch will actually be unlatched while we're driving around, and we might not discover it for a long while.
To avoid water leaks, exhaust leaks, and sneak thieves, I'd rather have it working fully.
