...but note, your original post says I guess carelessly "replaced brake master cylinder and did a bleed" when you must've meant clutch master cylinder.

Odd about that, don't own the Haynes and currently own only an auto 9000 so wasn't aware of the pilot bearing situation. Is it a no-contact collar, or a bushing meant to be lubed or of self-lubing plastic?

Another thought:
The main input bearings to a tranny when new have a certain amount of pre-load and thus a little resistance to free spinning when the engine is de-clutched, that they lose over time as the miles pile up. On really old trannys, you couldn't really say that bearing is bad as it's fine, solid, no discernible free play, but it wants to spin readily. The lag friction on the clutch disk, even with the pressure plate fully released, makes it want to keep skipping along and spinning with the engine some, and that would make the input shaft into the tranny spin, and contribute to hard shifting.

If that's what's going on, playing around with various different lubes might lead to one that minimizes it.

(Mainly, I'd been reading other people's answers and wondering about pilot bearing and if your hydraulic system was air-free, so I thought I'd pitch the suggestions in.)
