I need to line up to TDC.
I have done two timing chains in the past so I know how to get at TDC with the roll in method for a timing chain. I know there's a mark on the crank pulley, on the cam sprockets, and on the cam bearings, plus the marks on the fly wheel.
My problem is I have my head off and it is an automatic. I read in yaofeng's post that 1 tooth on the timing sprocket is 7 teeth on the flywheel. The problem isnt just timing, I read that my 9k can adjust for timing with the knock sensor - it is the balance shafts that I'm more concerned about. I want to make sure that everything hits right.
I know I can remove the shaft's chain and guides etc, but I wanted to keep the car as stock as possible. If an engineer designed the balance system that way, and Saab spent that much money on putting it in the cars, I'm sure there is a good enough reason to keep it in.
Main question - how accurate is using the crank pulley mark to line up TDC for the bottom end?
Thanks.
