Thanks for all the suggestions, but I finally found the problem. Inside the blower box are two flaps connected by a "L" shaped bracket. The end had broken off of this bracket, so the smaller flap, not directly connected to the cable, had stuck in one position. Therefore, when the air conditioning was on, I had plenty of airflow. However, when the heater was on, the large flap changed position, to divert air through the heater core, but the smaller flap blocked this airflow. This explains why I could hear the blower motor running, but was receiving no airflow through the defroster or heater vents. Not sure how to check this without pulling the blower motor, but keep this in mind if you have similar problems. Thanks again to all the replies.
