Emergency brake problem

My 96 9000 CS has been a terrific expense this year, not least that I had an accident not covered by the insurance. Be that as it may, cannot afford to buy a new one right now so have to carry on with the car that have spent so much money on, for now.

Latest problem is that the emergency brake cable snapped (or presume that is what happened, as the brake moved up and down afterwards with no friction). Anyway, the garage got a cable to replace the one snapped and said that they would need to take out the front seats in order to replace this and that it would take all day to be done.

Could someone give me some advice on what is involved in replacing the E-brake. Personally, I never used it, always putting the car in park. But, I was not driving it at the time... Right now, for nearly two weeks, or so, have been driving it without that brake and wondering if I can just leave off having it done? Recently had the 'normal' brakes fixed, though I can't remember quite what it was though have the bill.

Would appreciate knowing what the proceedure is for fixing this, as taking out the front seats sounds altogether too much.
