'95CSE,
Here are a few tests:
1st Q: What's the best guess for the lack of cabin heat? Another words, the ACC is set on 27 and the fan is blowing air hard but the cabin never really quite heats up.
-Move the selector stub on the face of the ACC from "C" to "F".
-Calibrate the ACC unit:
PRESS and HOLD "AUTO" (top left button) and "<O>" (bottom right button).
A self test is carried out in conjunction with calibration. The total time for calibration and self-test is 25-30 seconds. The number of faults (0-5), if any, is shown in the display during the first 35 sedonds.
-Test the CABIN TEMPERATURE SENSOR (218):
Check the interior temperature sensor suction fan by allowing a piece of tissue to be sucked towards the intake.
-Test the BLENDED AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR (217):
Check the blended air temperature sensor by disconnecting the ACC Unit, and using an OHMmeter to measure resistance across disconnected harness pin 14 (green/red wire) and pin 32 (green/red wire). It is a NTC (negative temperature coefficient) sensor- -resistance decreases as temperature increases- -located under the dash after the air mixing damper.
-Test the HEATER CORE:
Press the ACC red button until you see "HI" in the display. Open the hood and remove the aquarium (bulkhead) cover. Locate the hoses attached to the heater core. Measure and record the temperature of each hose. They should be identical. Measure the temperature of the top radiator hose. If it is significantly warmer, you will need to verify the heater core is not clogged.
With the coolant at ambient temperature, disconnect the heater core hoses at the engine. Make sure the amount of fluid you put in is the same as what comes out.
-Test the RECIRCULATION FLAP:
With the aquarium (bulkhead) cover removed, look at the driver's side of the evaporator. There is a loop of wire that attaches to the RECIRCULATION FLAP. Press the RECIRCULATION button on the ACC and the wire should be push the flap toward the radiator.
2nd Q: If the car isn't warm and I put the ACC on Auto and it starts off blowing air. Shouldn't it wait until the car warms up before kicking in like that?
-No.
Happy Trails
