There were at least a few 9000 base models produced that had only a radio--no player or equalizer. On those models, a plastic bin, around 6 inches deep was put in the third DIN hole. Every once in a while you will see one in a junk yard or on an auction site. I put a bin in my 9000 when I swapped out the radio and equalizer. I drilled a small hole in the back to bring out the wire for an MP3 player.
