My "tool" is a turnbuckle with hooks. It's adjustable, but not while attached to the tensioner piston. At this point, I'm considering removing the whole assembly and compressing the piston with a c-clamp so I can release pressure and make small adjustments to line everything up. Good idea or more trouble? I can't use a breaker bar anymore because the bottom bolt/cylinder is removed. The piston seems to compress as it should, but it's fighting me all the way as I try to line up the holes.
I think the tool might have fatigued slightly under pressure and that is what caused everything to be off upon reassembly. I'm going to look at it tomorrow with fresh eyes. Any other suggestions?
