It's a bad idea to run without a PCV in line, and I can't tell you what to do with your own car, but if I understand correctly it's the seal at the plug where the line connects that was the problem, not the valve itself. You could make a temporary repair, some duct tape might do it. But if the hose is actually unplugged at the valve cover end you don't risk pressurising anything. However, the breather/crankcase ventilation system will not be functioning as it should.
There is no harm at all in replacing the PCV, good idea.
