Straightening it out and wrapping the line with vinyl tape works, for now. I am going to check it for leaks however.
So I straightened it out, hooked up the fuel filter.... car started up. Which it has not done in a year! I suspect the pump or CPS or ignition switch was bad, which created the initial problem, but my kinking the line (on replacing the fuel filter just after car died) may have added to the problem. Regardless, going to test it for a while, but so far it appears to be running perfectly. I just hope the line does not leak!
