Success with 3M 08031 adhesive Posted by sam96CS [Email] (#852) [Profile/Gallery] (more from sam96CS) on Tue, 2 Oct 2012 09:49:38 In Reply to: Wish people did not use this for exterior trim..., RayF, Thu, 13 Sep 2012 04:54:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks again Fred and Ray. I should have reported back sooner that it worked very well.
The adhesive is a bit runny, but easier to control than a spray. It was tacky within about 3 minutes. I didn't have a clamp that I felt would be gentle enough for the panel, so I held the slightly curved trim piece in place by hand for about 15 minutes. When I let go the trim piece remained securely fastened and as straight as the edge of the panel. I gave it 24 hours to cure before installing the panel, although it was probably cured enough long before then.
This was one of 3 glues I used on this door panel. I super glued some loose leather. I used a plastic bonder to glue a hook that broke off of the plastic trim piece behind the inside door handle.
Between these adhesives and new-to-me actuator and door lock micro switch, the door looks and works like new.
