It maybe possible to shift the fuel pump to the proper position without disconnecting the fuel lines. Take the ring off and without lifting the pump much, move the bottom of the pump forward until it drops level with the collar in the tank. Lift on the front of the pump collar while holding the rear of the collar so it rise much if any. Haven't tried this, but it maybe possible without lifting the pump much if any. The pump can't be lifted much with the fuel lines connected, since the lines run under the body work.
