Name Left Blank,
Thanks for getting back. I will remember the sheetrock screw and vise grip approach. Fortunately, there is a lot of sheet metal hanging out so I can also grip with with a small vise grips and lever it out working around it as I go. It seems some damage the seal going in so I will grease things up, tape over the hole in the shaft and use a close fitting socket over the shaft to keep things perpendicular.
I have so many outstanding repairs to make on this vehicle that could include a new slave cylinder and possible new synchros, not to mention a repaint and that expected headliner and seat covers one would expect for a 28 year old car. So I am going the less expensive work first and seeing where things go. On the slave cylinder front, I am going to replace the master, line to reservoir and flex line section to engine because I understand a trashy master can shed internal plating and take out the slave. Also, it is much easier to do! Take care!
