The AVERAGE speed of the fastest of the three cars, thus, including pit stops for driver changes, tire changes, and routine maintenance, was 132.5 mph! Staying within the green zone will only get you to about 72 mph, not much of a test there, even for 1986. :)

When you say 'full throttle', you don't really need to specify an rpm range, because the rpm will be determined by only a few important factors. Namely, how much HP you have, and your total aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance. Rev limiter could play a role, but not in this case, as redline (6,000 rpm) is not achieved until 145 mph, which is beyond the capabilities of the car given the other two factors. Excepting going downhill with a significant tailwind...and even then. :)

I think one of the few problems the cars ran into at Talladega, was that due to the high speed and very high banking of the corners (I want to say 15 degrees or more?), all the oil would be pushed over to one side of the engine. And since all the corners are the same direction, one side of the engine is starved for lubrication. I forget what they did to remedy this, think perhaps they put on a new head every so often? Of course, you will likely not run into this problem during an high speed driving you do..
