Not a battery problem. The battery just acts as a reservoir. The voltage dropping with speed points directly to the alternator/voltage regulator.
It sounds a lot like bad brushes and/or dirty commutator in the alternator. As speed increases, the contact goes bad between the brushes and commutator (bad springs like hmr, dirt, wear, etc.). Essentially the brushes start jumping over the commutator. The other possiblity is that the voltage regualator itself is having a problem.
Yes, the alternator may have just been replaced, and that's why I suspect it even more. Just because it's 'new' doesn't mean it can't have a problem. Perhaps it wasn't rebuilt properly. Maybe the rebuild just consisted of a new paint job. Or perhaps it's new, but there is a manufacturing problem with the brushes (one is broken), or an imperfection in the commutator. Either way, new, out-of-the-box parts have been known to be bad, and I suspect that's what's in your car right now.
Did you get any warranty on the work, or the part?
