With Ari and Aero Guy. However, there is at least one situation where I feel double clutching is really needed, and probably does indeed keep the synchros from unnecessary wear. Say you're traveling along any road, and need to pass someone or just speed up far more quickly than either your current gear, possibly even next lower gear, will allow. The only way to do this smoothly, is to double clutch, blip the throttle to get the revs up (way up if you are going down two gears).
It's my feeling (hopefully not misguided), that the smoother you can make your shifts, the longer everything will last. Not just the tranny, the motor mounts, etc..
Just my thoughts...
