By raising the base boost you are lowering the safety threshold at
which the APC will compensate when knocking does occur. If you
want to get better turbo response, then it only makes sense to
start with the exhaust. A 3" exhaust from the downpipe will
give you over 75% more flow area than a stock 2-1/4" exhaust.
Less restriction at the backside has to be beneficial to your
turbo's ability to spool. The APC control managed by the Trionic
is a pretty sophisticated piece of engineering development. I wouldn't want to start tinkering with something like base boost
unless I knew all the ramifications - ya, I know, some 'tuners'
raise base boost, but I have yet to hear a convincing argument
as to why they do this. What do they know, that Saab engineers
don't?
