Tweak base boost on '96 Aero?

I've noticed that my '96 Aero reaches base boost quite often, even under quite light throttle. It takes a bit more throttle, though, before it starts to increase beyond that, eventually into the red.
I prefer to think of Trionic's boost control as a device for increasing boost, rather than limiting it (although you can look at it either way, I suppose) and that base boost is the starting point for its sphere of influence.
The question is, if I increase base boost a tad (by shortening the wastegate rod by, say, one turn), might I get better turbo response in the region before Trionic takes over boost control? i.e. is it worth doing this on a Trionic engine? I realise that no amount of (sensible) tinkering in this area will alter the boost once Trionic takes over.
Although I always use Super Unleaded (98 RON - don't know what AON this equates to), would this small mod impair the car's ability to use standard Unleaded (95 RON)? I suspect not, since the car is specified to run much less than this as standard (91 RON, I think, which I have never seen in this country).
