Our old trooper (1997) did the same thing. In the manual it stated that this was the optimum position to avoid turbulence. By stopping by itself the driver does not run the risk of distracting himself trying to adjust it. I have seen this on a few cars with large sunroofs, is the 9k a big sunroof? It seems that these really big openings can cause some nasty turbulence if they are opened fully at speed. Sounds like an engineered characteristic to me.
