My warranty question : Thanks (especially to adam & quasi) Posted by Gerry [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Thanks to all who answered my warranty question yesterday, I only checked in now, and was pleasantly surprised by the number of responses. Quasi's website is a must !
Before I spend $1,000 : I asked some people here, including one guy who had a late 80's 900 for about 8 years, he bought it at 100k miles, and sold it 250k miles (and got $250 for it !). Although the board says "spend", my friends say "pass". They say that by buying the warranty, I will definitely lose $1,000 ; but there is a good chance I would get to 100k miles without a problem.
Another friend said watch out for the radiator and the fuel tank (don't know why), but these are about the only 2 things not covered. He says engine mount problems can be anticipated by checking, and that they are more a 900 problem. Anybody else, or any second thoughts ?
In response to one email, the warranty is by Preferred Warranties Inc (http://www.warrantys.com), but is only available at time-of-sale from trusted pre-owned dealers. Has anybody had any experience with them, as they seem to be fairly big ?
(Racall from yesterday, the warranty is $1,000 for 36 months/45k miles, $100 deductible, and covers everything, such as lubricated parts, electric motors (locks/windows/seat/wipers), the turbo, heat and a/c, fuel pump, valve covers, engine mounts, steering column, power steering pump, brakes: master cylinder/wheel cylinder/calipers, etc. I am purchasing a 97 Saab 9000 CS, 4-cyl, 5-sp, 59k miles)
Thanks again for your help; in time I hope to share my experiences. Right now, I am all chuffed up to drive a Saab at last !
