Well according to the instructions I was suppose to mount it further to the left(closer to the engine). They said to cut 2 inches off the intake hose going to the tubro, which I did not do. And buy looking at the old air box, I would not want to mount it inside the well because all the dirt and water will get on the filter, there was a signficant amount on the filter. I don't know if you have seen any other cars with intakes but all of them are closer to the engine then mine is. Toyota Supra Twin Tubro for example. I don't think mounting it in the wheel well will make much different because all the air in goes through the intercooler first then into the engine.
Its debatable. I guess.
