Good advice! A few notes:
>> 1) add fuel storage fluid to fuel tank (follow instructions and add premixed with fresh gas) and drive it....
Also change oil, then drive long enough to get oil heated to 150°F or more to remove water from system. Water will ruin the exhaust system and possibly engine metal surfaces if it remains long enough.
>> 2) remove spark plugs and spray fogging oil into cylinders. Turn engine over manually to lubricate rings and cylinder walls. Replace spark plugs.
Battery should be charged after this cranking step to get specific gravity up to normal. Or, a far better idea would be to use a "smart" trickle charger (like a Battery Tender) on the battery while stored. They only cost about $40 (try http://www.wallycycleworld.com or http://www.competitionaccessories.com), which is less than a new battery. These are excellent chargers!
Remove battery if possible, but don't store on a concrete surface! If the battery isn't kept at ideal specific gravity (around 1250), it will fail prematurely. Keep the charge up and it will likely weather the ideal period without penalty. It wouldn't hurt to check the electrolyte level periodically, if it is a non-maintenance-free battery.
