I suspect that grounding will not solve this problem. I think the problem is more likely that the wire running between the radio and the amp is picking up noise because it is too close to another wire carrying noise. While this noise might not be noticeable going from the radio to the speaker, when you start to amplify the signal carried in that wire, it becomes an aggravation.

Where did you tap into the speaker output? If you are running wires from where the speaker leads come out by the speaker, there may be a short in the right side. I would recommend running separate wires from the back of the radio to the amp. Wrapping the wires in a "double helix" (the guys at the stereo store can show you - basically just wrapping wires around each other) will greatly aid noise suppression. Also, avoid routing wires by the passenger side rocker panels. There is a bundle of wires in there that induces a lot of noise. Instead, try to run wires straight down the middle.

Does the amp accept speaker level inputs, or are you using a convertor? I have had noise problems with the convertors. Did you try switching the right and left side inputs at the amp to make sure that there isn't a problem with the amp.

If you have run separate wires from the back of the radio to the amp to provide the input (which you should do, if you haven't), switch the right and left wires at the radio and see if the noise moves to the left side. If it does, then you have a wire problem. If it doesn't, then you have a problem in the radio.

Seems like kind of a waste to me to have a Phoenix Gold amp hooked up to that Clarion radio.
