Hi Bill,
Following on from a posting I made a few days ago (shown at the end of this message), I have heard from several car audio dealers that RCA outputs are better as far as interference shielding is concerned. However, both the quality of the cable taking the sound from the head units' RCA output(s) and the grounding point is important. I have used DLS (swedish audio manufacturer) balanced, triple shielded cable going from the back of my Clarion ARX 7470 head unit, feeding into a Genesis Stereo 60 Amp. The Genesis Amp along with my second Alpine 4 channel amp are grounded using 8 gauge cable to one of the rear seat belt harnesses. The amps are on the back of the rear seats. The cable ends were crimped. I took off the big seat belt harness nut to loosen the two harness plates and put the crimped rings in between and then tightened the bolt as much as I could. The grounding is fine, those crimped cables are not going anywhere.
I also applaud the installation ideas Aaron Gilbert has shared with the community. I got some good tips from him as well.
Regards,
Imran

An alternative speaker. I have installed XTANT 4" speakers in the front of my 1997 9000 Aero. They are distributed by Car Audio Labs here in the UK (who also are the Rockford Fosgate main dealer) and are recommended of the top car audio installers in the UK. They are being powered with a Genesis Stereo 60 amp through DLS 5m triple shielded balanced RCA cable, with crossover frequency set to 100Hz. The rears are Infinity Kappa 693.1i (6x9) being fed by an Alpine 4 channel amp. In time, the Alpine outputs will be bridged to give 2 x 180W into a dual voice coil sub (possibly Diamond Audio 12"). The setup sounds very good even though the XTANTS are "bedding in" with the Genesis gain set to low. In about a months time, the gains will go up. One thing though, the sound in a SAAB 9000 is so good. What a solid car!
