I replaced most of the timing and balance chain components and the diesel noise did not go away. The balance drive sprocket was worn the most although not to the point of failure at 70K miles. The diesel noise went away when the engine got warm, a good sign. Otherwise the noise could be piston slap, wrist pin, or balance shaft. If your diesel noise goes away when the engine gets warm I wouldn't worry about it to much.
