The diesel type noise is often caused by noisy lifters in my opinion. Is it more of a fast click-click-click or a rattling sort of noise? Clicking is more liekly to be the lifters. Also check to see if the noise is uniform across the valve cover of concerntarted on the timing chain side. It should be pretty easy to distinguish between the two. If the noise only hapens on cold starts and then quickly goes away I would not be two concerned. If it continues when warm then I might begin to worry. What viscosity oil do you use and what climate are you in? Noisy lifter can be caused by too thin oil or possibly clogged oil passages or cracked oil nipples over the cam area. Do you know if the engine has always had regular oil changes?
