What kind of cranking voltage are you getting now? If >10v, you are probably okay, for now.
Letting a battery sit idle without maintaining specific gravity (charge) will adversely affect its longevity. Ideally, a battery should maintain a specific gravity of about 1250 at all times, as going below that will take a toll on its effective life. I have three vehicles, two of which have chargers connected to them. My '66 'Vette, which gets driven two or three times a month, gets a .3A charge for 4 hrs/day on an adjustable charger connected to a timer. My Harley is always connected to a Battery Tender, a "smart" charger that regulates the charge continually, when parked in the garage, even though I ride it several times per week. This is an excellent maintenance charger that can be purchased for about $40.
The battery for the 'Vette is a reproduction of the original Delco "tar top" and costs $155, and the H-D's small maintenance-free battery is $95. This is an encouragement to keep the batteries happy. The Saab has the least expensive battery, is driven daily, and doesn't need a charger--but when I go on my two-week motorcycle trip to New England this June, the Battery Tender will be attached to the Saab for that period.
