I think I have been seeing 9.something volts at startup for a year or so now. While running, I see anywhere from 12.something to 13.something.
Ah, to be a battery in your garage.
I assume that keeping a battery at full charge (as you do) maintains its specific gravity at a particular ideal level (1.25 as you say), yes? Or is it possible for specific gravity to fall below an ideal level even if one religiously keeps it fully charged? In other words, do we still have to check specific gravity these days?
I vaguely recall being told by an auto parts store person that it is no longer to appropriate to check specific gravity of modern batteries using that turkey baster-like tool (called a hygrometer I think). Whatever "modern" means. I suppose it means "maintenance-free". Something about the liquid in today's batteries not being what is used to be in olden days, thus causing a hygrometer to read incorrectly.
Am I right, or am I confusing this with something else...say, the traditional cheap plastic tool for checking antifreeze quality no longer being appropriate on modern antifreezes?
