Well as BillJ said in his recent message we are just getting some nice weather in this cold little island and the ac has packed up.

Here is the history to this event. A week or so ago we had the pulley wheel on the alternator disintegrate (the bearing went). We had that changed. Now the AC does not work. I asked the advice of the shop and they said to check that it was being driven by the belt. If it was then it was probably the clutching on the AC compressor. This would need to be changed and would cost around about the £600 mark!!!!!!!

Upon inspection I found the compressor was being driven.

My questions are the following.

1: Is there any other possible solution that will get the AC back on line without costing £600?
2: If I do need a new AC compressor can I (and should I) get a second hand part?
3: I know that my Haynes manual suggests that all work on the AC system should be undertaken by a SAAB shop. Is this still true with the AC compressor.
