Hoping someone can help me out with a problem. Living here in Singapore and despite the crazy economics of it, I am in the market for a car---a Saab.
Recently came across a beautiful '93 Aero with about 90K miles on it, fits ok into the budget, and is in seemingly good condition. (You are not able to do any significant test driving and only basic vehicle inspections of used cars here.)
The problem is that when I took my wife for test drive in the Aero, she absolutely hated the ride! Said it was completely unacceptable for her as she felt every bump in the road. We had also driven a nice '93 9000 CDE and she had no complaints about its ride. But this Aero is very sweet!
I do not think that the Aero has had any major work done on it, except for regular maintenance, so I suspect that the shocks, struts, and mounts are all original equipment. However, given that the car must be "scrapped" after 2 more years (because of crazy rules affecting car ownership here), I am really leery of putting in major work for minimal or no gain in comfort.
Had never test driven an Aero before last week and I am concerned that even with some replacements of the parts, the sports suspension on the Aero will be too rough for her liking. Since this would be our joint car here, you can imagine the never ending abuse I would be setting myself up for should I go ahead with my first choice!
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this Aero's ride comfort could be greatly improved at relatively low cost or should I just reluctantly wait until I am back in the States and I can buy my own Aero and she can buy her beloved Honda?
Thanks much in advance for any thoughts on this...
BTW - Have really enjoyed reading the posts on this site. Great information in them.....
