We repair most of the major brands at work - Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse. The Sony's don't break any more than the others, and we see far less Sonys in need of new optics, which is the most common repair to car (home too) CD players. The reason for this being primarily, the ESP built into most of the Sonys, or Electronics Shock Protection. It's simply a read ahead buffer that can continue to output music if the player skips, usually the laser will get back on track before the buffer runs out.
